PayPal / eBay being hacked today June 22, 2016

This combo made from file photos shows the eBay, top, and PayPal logos at their headquarters buildings in San Jose, Calif. The mobile payment service PayPal is splitting from eBay and will become a separate and publicly traded company in 2015, eBay announced Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014. (AP Photo)

If you ever linked eBay Giving Works to your PayPal account you are vulnerable. I havent sold anything on eBay since April and I haven’t donated a portion of proceeds on anything in over a year, so I was surprised to see a message on my phone today saying that I paid ebay giving works $4.80 today. Unfortunately my phone died after trying to upload a video at Disney and by the time it charged enough to restart there were 3 charges totaling almost $20. I contacted PayPal who conferenced with eBay and apparently both companies were aware of the ongoing fraud.

Somehow the link between eBay giving works accounts and PayPal accounts has been compromised. It has not yet been resolved and people are still being robbed.

Check your PayPal transactions and sever the link to your eBay giving works. Security has to come before charity and if they can’t keep your account safe, find another way to donate.

Good luck and leave a comment if you get the run around from PayPal.
